Peer Teaching Feedback

Hi friends,

Thanks again for your kind attention and active participation during my team's (Guo Chen, myself, Xiaoshi & Yanling) presentation on Preparing for and Performing at Interviews. We hope you enjoyed it and are able to take something useful out of it. Please feel free to drop your comments here on our strengths, weaknesses and possible areas of improvement.

Appreciate you guys taking the time off in giving your insights. I've also attached Xixi's and Nanhai's interview videos which unfortunately couldn't be viewed in class. Enjoy!

  1. Hey guys, first and foremost, I would like to say that you guys did an awesome job! I was really impressed with many aspects of your presentation. The slides were very well done, with many animated pictures to illustrate your points well, rather than very wordy slides which might have bored the audience. Another great aspect would be the high level of interaction with the audience that you guys had. Though without much hands-on activities, it is great that you guys were able to frequently ask the class questions and hence, including the audience into the presentation altogether. However, what I really like about your presentation is your group’s ability to draw reference from what each other presented during the presentation, which I felt was fabulous and it really shows the connection and flow from one speaker to the other. Probably what I felt could have been improved on would probably be that the allocation of content could have been better, as I felt Vinod’s part seemed rather technical. Also, there could have been more activities carried out during the presentation. However, regardless of everything I still felt it was a fabulous job! Well done guys! (:

    For Yan Ling, I felt that you were a great presenter to look at because you were constantly smiling! It was great that your tone throughout the presentation was one that was very cheerful and upbeat. Coupled with your smooth flow, it is a great package altogether. However, if I had to pick on something, it would have been that you were not really standing firm on the ground, but you tend to sway a little as you speak. But other than that, great job! (:

    For Ms Koh, well done on your presentation on your field of expertise! I could tell that you were very prepared for your presentation and you knew your stuff very well. Great flow, great posture and relatively good eye contact. However, I felt you were speaking a little too fast during your presentation. I also felt that you tend to refer to your slides more than you needed to. However, you still did a great job! Well done! (:

    For Vinod, great posture, great eye contact, nice tone and projection of your voice. You did a fantastic job! There’s really nothing much for me to pick on, but probably that you could have more facial expressions like Yan Ling and smile more!

    For Guo Chen, great job too! I felt that you were well prepared as well and able to answer most of the questions targeted for your group, which shows your familiarity in the topic and the high level of research done. However, probably you could have talked a little more loudly and projected your voice more. I also felt you seemed a little nervous at the start of the presentation. But nonetheless, well done! (:

  2. Hi,

    Congratulations for a spectacular job!

    I agree with Alicia's detailed comments. What might be improved is the time management part.For me, it was perfectly ok to listen to your education presentation. But not all people in the workplace bother to spend their ultra-precious time to a presentation which exceeds significantly.

    On the other hand, given such a broad topic, it is understandable that 30mins allocated is definitely not enough.

    On the whole, I enjoyed your lesson tremendously! Well-done!

  4. Thanks Alicia and XiXi for your comments so far! I'll take note of my swaying, didn't realize that while trying to keep my mind straight..
    XiXi, I really admire your courage for taking up the challenge. I am learning, but one day I hope to be like you!

    Hi everyone,
    Our group felt that you may retain more if we shared our slides with you. I shall leave the link to it here, though it's slightly marred by google docs - no animations! :/

    We hope these tips will help with the mock interviews on Thursday! If you have any more queries, we hope you can leave it here to open the discussion to our classmates too. We feel that there are really so many interview tips out there, which may also vary with the country, culture, industry, etc despite all that talk of globalization. Discussion is the way to go. All the best!

  5. Hi,

    I just want to add some points besides Alicia’s detailed comments :)

    The things I like most are the pictures used in your presentation! It caught my attention immediately and helped to illustrate the contents very well. The only flaw I found is that maybe you can give a better summary at the end of your presentation. This will make the whole process coherent and complete.

    It’s a very good presentation overall! Thanks for your hard work!

  6. Hi guys!

    Amazing presentation I would say. Thanks for that insightful lesson regarding job interviews.

    On the whole, I felt your group’s presentation was the best among the class. Firstly, we were made to sit right smack in front of the presenters, which was extremely effective in terms of grabbing hold of our attention. I find myself being more attentive than any other presentations. Secondly, the outlook of the presentation appeared professional as you guys, except the speaker, were seated together with us. As such, possible distractions were eliminated. Last but not least, your team was very appropriately dressed for the presentation.

    Cheers,
    Alvin

  7. Hi people!

    I would say it was an awesome session you three gave the class. The few weeks of hard work sure payed off. Now off to the comments..

    I like the way you separated each part of the presentation equally, into "before, during and after". This really made it easier to remember. The slides were really animated, with the important key words either in larger fonts, bold or in different colors. Really effective in getting your point across. However, there were a few slides that I felt could have been better, as there were too much "blank" space with small letters. Also, there was a series of slides that Yanling did, talking about the top 5 criteria employers look for, which i felt that could be improved by putting all the 5 points in one slide at the last slide, instead of just flashing past quickly. Overall presentation was good.

    @Yan Ling: You had a steady pace and clear articulation, which made it easy for hearing. However, I believe your nervousness got the better of you, as you constantly staggered in your speech, which you liked to say "erm..." many times. Other than that word, I believe it was a great job!

    @Xiaoshi: You have a natural talent of using variation of tones when you are presenting, which really attracts our attention. Your good eye contact and interactions make your presentation interesting.

    @Vinod: You did a good job by doing a short recap when you started. An effective way to drive the whole topic across. One thing I noticed, was that you have a habit of looking at the screen even when the screen was blank! You tend to speed up once in a while, but your clear articulation and variation of tone makes it interesting to hear. I really like your touch of humour every now and then. I still remember your "smell a phony answer". Haha.

    @Guochen: Despite English not being your strong spoken language, you manage to pull it off by speaking slowly to get your point across. Maybe after more practice, you will be even more fluent when speaking. I quite like your idea of using Mr Bean as your analogies when doing your presentation. Very attention grabbing!

    Pardon my lengthy comment. But awesome job overall girls and guy!

  8. Hi guys,

    Firstly, it was a fantastic effort you guys put up. Your dress is very professional. The seating plan in front of the class is well done, so that you will have full attention of everyone. The slides are simple and easy to read, not many words, with interesting photos to rest our eyes. The skit was humorous and interesting. The mock interview activity with evaluation is very effective way to let us see real life examples. However, the presentation is too long.

    @Vinod
    You have a good introduction and interesting recap of the previous presenter. Your speed and volume are appropriate. Nevertheless, the eye-contact is not very good. You seem to be looking at the back of the class. The use of language is also very good. Also, you are very well prepared.

    @Yanling
    Your anecdote of Steve Jobs makes your presentation more interesting and memorable. The prompt question that you posed grabbed our attention. You are also very well-dressed. You have maintained a good eye-contact as well. Nevertheless, you always stutter when you speak, showing that you are a little unprepared. Other than that, well done.

    @Xiao Shi
    Your dress proves why you are doing this section on clothing. The introduction to your part was well-done as well. You also have a very engaging presentation. The hand gestures are good. However, you speak a little fast making it hard to follow. You didn't maintain a very good eye-contact as well. Sometimes you adjust your hair which could be quite distracting.

    @Guo Chen
    You made an interesting link of Mr. Bean's example. The speed of presentation is very appropriate. However, you stutter a little which hinders our understanding of what you are trying to say. You didn't maintain a good eye-contact and didn't emphasize on the correct words.

    Thank you for you presentation again.

    Cheers,
    Billet
